Just Go – Give Into Your Wanderlust
When I was younger, I got the chance to travel a lot. By the time I turned 17 I had already visited 7 countries and had traveled to a few different states back east. Most of those trips, I had done without my parents. Between mission trips and Girl Scouts, every year of high school I went on a trip. The last big trip I went on, until recently, was to Europe for 6 weeks with one other girl. Just a couple of weeks after I graduated high school, I was jet-setting abroad and it was one of the best experiences I could ever have. I thought traveling was something normal. You worked and saved up enough money and you went. I was the queen of the side hustle even before I knew what a side hustle was!
Then life happened. I started college and met my at the time boyfriend and before I knew it we were expecting our first child. Our one little bundle of joy turned into two bundles of joy before the first one turned two! I was still going to college, working and dreams of traveling were replaced with dreams of motherhood. Life happened again, this time my youngest son started having health problems so I put my education on hold to work and take care of him. The years went by, life happened again and I was a single mom.
Time went by and we settled into a routine. Then almost two years ago to the day, I got the chance to fly out to AZ to visit my college. This was the year of returning dreams. I decided to finish my degree and to start traveling again. Even though my trip to AZ was only for the day, it was the first time I had been on an airplane in 11 years and suddenly that thrill of seeing a new part of world sparked something in me. I know this sounds a little cheesy but 2015 was a big year for us. This was the year I started to make things happen again. I always wanted to inspire my boys to show them that they could do whatever or go wherever they wanted to as long as they set their mind on it. 2015 was the year I was able to really start showing them by example.
One of the Biggest Regrets…
There is a study that says one of the top ten things people regret at the end of their lives is that they didn’t get to travel enough and I don’t want that to be me. Traveling is something that is extremely important to me. My mom always told me if I had wings, she would probably never see me again! God created such a big and beautiful world, it would be a shame to not get to experience it. I was recently blessed to start to traveling again. Last year, I was able to go to Mexico twice and I even took a solo trip on an Alaskan and Canadian cruise. We also got to take a couple smaller trips too. For the first time, I was able to show my kids the world. This year we already have a few trips planned. At the end of next month, I am going on a cruise with my mom and grandma to Mexico. We have never taken a mom/daughter trip! At the end of April, my family and I will travel to AZ for my graduation and hopefully make a stop at the four corners and Grand Canyon. For my 30th birthday in May, I am crossing my fingers that I will be going to London. This one isn’t set in stone but I am doing all that I can to make it happen. In July we will be heading up to Lake Tahoe for a week and then in October, we will do another family trip to Disney!
If there is one thing I can encourage and inspire you to do is to just go! Maybe it’s not traveling but whatever it is that you love, just do it. Find a way and make it happen. Don’t live your life with regrets. We only get one life, make the most of it. Leave a comment below with your “thing” and tell me how you’re going to work towards it. I would love to inspire and encourage your dreams. No one wants to wake up one day and wish they had followed their dreams.
